“Only you can choose the place where you will truly shine. No-one else knows better.”

Welcome back! How did you get on with your step 11 – finding your strength-based skills? If you are still not totally clear, have another try with the exercise after reading this post. And definitely speak with your friends or ex-colleagues. They will help you see what you can’t see. Often things that we do best seem very easy to us, so easy that they go unnoticed.  So what is the next step? The next important step is to find the place, the environment where you can truly shine. It’s the same kind of thing as digging  a dwell. You can be the strongest and most determined person, but if you dig in a wrong place … you know the outcome, right?

“Every person can be successful, wealthy and happy. Happy people shine like beautiful starts. It is up to you where you choose to shine.”

This seems kind of obvious right, but you would be surprised how many people undermine this factor when they are looking for the job of their dreams. So how do you know which environment is right for you? There are a few factors to consider: the type of organisation – small, medium, large. Then there is another factor the ownership – private, corporate, government – this will determine the process of decision making and how much freedom you have to bring your ideas to the table. Values – unless they match or compliment with yours, you are setting yourself for an inner conflict. There is a lot more to consider: Money driven or charitable? International or UK based entity? Is it fast moving and dynamic or slow paced? Is it revolutionary, innovative or rather traditional? The choice is yours..

Step #12 coffee break exercise:

  • Zero to dream jobImagine yourself in your dream job and this time focus more on the environment, the place and people. What would the place where you see yourself shining look like? List 10 sentences describing your ideal place.
  • Consider the following factors:
    • Does the place match your values?
    • Does this place suit your personality?
    • Does this place recognise what you have to offer?
    • Is there an opportunity to learn what you want to learn?
    • Do people who work there look happy or not?
  • Share about your discoveries with your buddy. Do you know where would they like to work and shine? Find out and continue to support each other in finding your dream job.
