Have you ever thought that by hiding your talents, gifts, skills and potential you can actually make it difficult for your ideal employer to find you? When it comes to job search, many people love playing it safe or play the game “hide and seek”. Their career profile and resume are so generic that they blend in with the crowd. Their true potential remains hidden. Perhaps they are hoping that the potential employer will somehow find them and recognise their greatness, but how?
“To get discovered one must show up.”
Be brave to describe who you really are, what makes you different and how your outstanding results can make a difference. Do you find presenting your own results, achievements or potential challenging? Good news is, you are not alone. Many people do. Whether it’s their concern to stand out, worry to come across as a show-off or be judged, not fitting in … the list goes on. One thing is clear, though. If you try to fit in and hide in the crowd with everyone else, your potential boss who is possibly right now searching for you will have it difficult to recognise you. So the questions is: “Isn’t it the time to get visible and discovered?”
Step #26 coffee break exercise:
Think about your dream job and your resume.- List down 5 personal strengths and 5 achievements that make you different from others, those that make you really stand out.
- If you start experiencing discomfort or resistance, call your best friend or someone who knows you well. Work through the exercise together. Ask them what they think makes you different and a great person to work with. Supporting each other will help you find your dream job and it’s fun to do it together.

I love this post. It’s such a great idea. It’s not only applicable to a job search, but also to one’s individual life. This activity of writing down the things we’re good at is such a terrific tool to show us our value and increase our self-esteem. Thank you!
